As silly question....

Is there any need to have antivirus on appliances such as Firewalls, Proxy etc? To clarify I do not mean is it possible to deploy antivirus checking functionality on appliances... my question is are the appliances themselves vulnerable to malware and should you apply an AV agent?

Many thanks for any views:-)

No, appliances are usually not susceptible to malware, and you won't even find AV software to install on such devices.

Keep up to date on firmware for the appliances to make sure any known issues are fixed, and that is pretty much all you can do.
