MacBook remote not working after long sleep

morning all
over the last few days I've noticed that my remote for my Intel MacBook (running Leopard) does not work after it has been asleep over night. I've tried pairing the remote to the laptop but it just refuses to register at all at this point. However after a proper restart it all works fine.

Any ideas?
