i have seen sites that have flash into's that arn't all that bad.
They actualy had information about the site. kind of a bullet point hing to get peple interested.

It was a site for city apartemnts. it had pictures of the apartments and had info about them pop up etc...

Other than that i think the only other reason for flash intro is if it was for a flash dsign company, who needed to show off their capabilities at firrst glance.

like the old rayoflight.org intro

Umm.. I do dial up at home and 95% of the sites I go to that have a flash into get the close button hit really fast!

In the U.S. dial up users out number broadboand users at home. Flash sucks big ******on dialup and add's nothing to the site except you know not to mark it as a favorite or bookmark it.

The very fact that the developers of that Flash site saw a need for an HTML intro page demonstrates the major problem with Flash: it's not suitable for eveyone.

The HTML intro page tells you (if you bother reading the tiny text) that:

1. you need a recent main-stream browser (not everyone does)
2. you need the Flash plugin (not everyone does)
3. you need broadband (not everyone does).

I'm one of the lucky ones, I have all those things here at work, so I had no trouble seeing the site. It looks very cool and I found the info easy enough to get to.

However, many of the potential clients for that company won't be as lucky as me so they'll have trouble seeing the site, and they'll just go somewhere else that's easier for them. The site does show off how good the company is at doing it's stuff, but it's also an effective barrier to many potential clients, which surely has to be bad for business.
