Please could someone help me in setting up SSH on a Mandrake 9 Machine.
I've decided it's time to learn linux and am looking to get VNC running over SSH for remote admin so I can learn from the office when I'am bored Wink

I have got VNC installed and working but am unable to get SSH working. I appear to have downloaded a RPM of OPENSSH 3.5 and installed it using the rpm command, but can find no server service to start or configure.

Thanks

Very Happy

I haven't installed Mandrake 9 yet (too busy studying for a certification exam). Do you have Webmin installed? If not, does Mandrake 9 still have support for Linuxconf? If it does and you want to configure it through the System V initialisation scripts, go to the Control tab option, select the Control Service activity option and look to see if the sshd service is running. You can enable it in this option.

If you have Webmin installed on the PC connect to http://localhost:10000 or http://127.0.0.1:10000 and login with the superuser account.

Go to the System tab. Then click on the Bootup and Shutdown icon. Scroll down and see if you can see the sshd service running. You can enable it from this screen.
