Ok, first the question, this problem(I think it is network) is network, hardware, or OS?

Here's my network:

Toshiba Satelite 420CDT
Slackware 10.0

ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe
Athlon 2500+@2.2GHZ
512MB RAM DDR Corsair Value
HD SATA Seagate 80GBs
GeForce FX 5600
FreeBSD 5.2.1-p9

And a LG LS3108PA Switch.

And here's the design of my network

Internet(512Kb/s DSL) - - - - ->Server------>Switch----->Clients

And the problem?
Well, I download torrent files in a VERY slow rate, tried all the kind of configs and client's, and still the same thing, it is VERY slow, but today I've decided to put the link of the internet, directly into the client, and for my surprise, the download-rate was at least 200% bether, since I cannot forget about the server, I had to put things like they were before.
But I still didn't understood why there was such a big diference, I mean, if the diference was of 1K/s, even 5, it's ok I guess, but the diference was about 30k/s, what can it be? The server hardware? The server OS? Or the switch?
The firewall isn't couse I made test with and without firewalling, it was always the same ol thing.

Sory bout the big topic, and thx in advance.

Hmm... you did notice this is a 6 year old thread, right?

Not to mention the fact that you're giving him Windows-specific instructions, like disabling Windows bloat and installing Ad Aware and Spybot, on his Slackware server and FreeBSD laptop...

Now, as for what Zarnick's actual problem might have been... He didn't really specify just what he meant by "slow" , but I would guess his P133MHz server with 32MB RAM wouldn't handle anything much in the way of BitTorrent. Underspecified hardware would definitely have been my first bet.
