Hey everyone, I am a student at Saginaw Valley State University taking a Computer Forensic Class.

I was just wondering what type of role the Macintosh can play in Forensics/Network Security? Are there any specific software packages that are available for OSX that deal specifically with Computer Forensic Research or Network Security?

Thanks in advance.

There are lots of OSX ports of good security tools such as NMAP etc. A google search will reveal them. I can't think of any specific forensic tools per se, I am sure there are some Mac ones out there but for the most part the tools are either built in a Linux live CD or a Windows analysis system.

I am a Mac user and I don't need any any specific Windows tool, for the most part I use OTS tools or write something myself. I do use Windows tools though, some tools just haven't been ported.
