I recently ran McAfee virus scan enterprise on my Windows 7 computer. It identified and deleted several files related to a virus it called Exploit-CVE2008-5353. It is apparently a virus that exploits Sun Java.

I am wondering whether I ought to do anything else to secure my computer. Should I be content that McAfee has deleted the virus files, or should I consider reformatting my hard drive?

I have not noticed any problems with the performance of my system or of any software whatsoever.

You may want to run a secondary scan using a malware scanner such as malwarebytes or superantispyware. Sophos also makes a free rootkit cleaner that takes a while to scan, but is great at finding hidden files. You should also install a firewall, such as PC Tools Firewall Plus or Zone Alarm, and run netstat -an to ensure you're computer isn't making any suspicious connections.

I am proceeding with formatting the hdd and reinstalling Windows 7. Should I flash the bios before proceeding (to eliminate the possibility that a virus is infecting the bios)? If, so, how? Lenovo offers this Bios Update Utility,, but when I ran it from a bootable cd, it returned the message "An update is not necessary at this time. Update canceled."

Additionally, you can also scan your computer through command prompt.
you'll just simply go to
run - type cmd - type sfc/scannow then restart

It helps to scan some errors to your system and registry.
And it also helps to fix it.

You need to check your McAfee virus scan enterprise version, please check that is it latest copy of it on not. Install latest copy of MaAfee virus scan enterprise and re-scan your system. Then also your problem is not short out, you can use another anti virus software.
