LONDON, Sept 3 (Reuters) - E-mail and Internet abuse, including the downloading of pornography, has overtaken theft of office supplies and lying to the boss as the top disciplinary action reported in the work place, a new study said.

More disciplinary cases have been brought against employees for violating company e-mail and Internet policies than for acts of dishonesty, violence or health and safety breaches, according to a survey by KLegal, a law firm associated with global accounting group KPMG, and Personnel Magazine.

KLegal and Personnel Magazine compiled the survey in June, polling 212 UK companies. Survey participants reported taking action in 358 disciplinary cases related to e-mail and Internet abuses compared to 326 cases for incidents of violence, dishonesty and safety breaches.

I browse this site from work. Many of my techs like to visit questionable sites during their slack time ... the only rule I enforce is that they DON'T do it on a PC they are repairing/upgrading. Don't think I could explain to Father Davis why there are porno cookies on his PC ... Laughing

Oh i dunno...company directors have been know to bring in extrenal security companys to examine computers day or night using programs like EnCase and forensic tool kits....directors make them out as, upgrade enginees and send the target out on a long lunch break.....they collect the data within 30min to an hour, all copied and a prepared file for analysis...

Saw a little keyboard logger on www.thinkgeek.com which sat between keyboard & PC on the ps2 port.

Plug it in - leave for a hour - take it away - read off EVERYTHING typed into the pc. OS independant.

Cheaper than a forensics sweep.

I changed to a USB keyboard!
