if you're looking for a fully functional real small unit i'd recommend the iPaq (it's the only product from compaq i'd ever recommend). it's a fully functional pda capable of running windows (not windows ce) and even linux (with some effort) and includes a pcmcia slot for things like wireless nic cards.
if you're looking for more of an actual laptop i like the dell latitude c400 series. it's very small, very thin, has a 12 inch display. a really nice light weight unit. most things like the cd drives require external connectivity but that doesn't really bother me to much so i imagine you'd be cool with it to.
