ok hun my graphic chip is failing and I am in need of a new one, but what is the best money can buy and the best cheapy :chip or card, I currently have a sis 630 which is adequate but rapidly burning out.
I may in the near future(very likely) buy a new motherboard too as mine is a bit rusty round the edges, which board is a good one money no object and cheap do gooder pref on the cheaper option and what chipset is best advoided
chipsets to advoid the 810 family, most now are obselete and will not run labour intensive graphics in games or on sites. These have now been replaced to cut costs on the new machines with the antiquated 530 SIS chip, although this is far better than the 810 series, they are still not powerful enough to run the new line of graphics.
Cheap alternative is one of the Nvidea(sp) 32mb graphic cards which can be brought for as little as £25.(shop around and check motherboard can take it) This card runs fairly decently most games including the intensive full Sim collection.
If you go by way of the graphic cards make sure you disable the chipset first or you will have problems 10 fold.
The SIS chip set comon problem with burning out, although it is a more stablechip, the next generation is the 645, which is heavily supported by Gigabytes motherboards(warning this motherboard is very temperamental )
Site below may give you pointers and clues as not what to buy.

It depends if you have an AGP slot on your motherboard or you need an old PCI card.
If you have an AGP slot get something like the ATI Rage 128 PRO if you don't play games (around £20-25) or something like the TNT2 or the Geforce 2MX if you are more into games (about £30-£45)
Do you want an all-in-one motherboard? Or you going to go upmarket a bit and go for seperate components?
If you are going all-in-one I'd recommend the PCChips, fairly cheap and pretty good quality components.
If you want seperate go for something like Abit/Epox/ASUS.
If you decide to go for one of the other let us know and we'll recommend what is best to get.
Raven hun thanks I shall read what the sites say on the subject.
Shaolin hun whats the difference or more so what is an agp or pci, what am I supposed to look for Regarding the motherboard I have no idea what to say on it, my modem is fine I use so if that can be moved to a new board although I was considering getting an external one , my processor although is fine is a tad slow so that can be upped, any help or pointers in that direction will be much appreciated.
